Why the Hip Hop/Jazz Combo Class Is a Must-Try This Fall

At the Blue Island Park District, we’re always looking for fun, dynamic ways to keep our youth active and inspired. That’s why I’m thrilled to bring back our popular Hip Hop/Jazz Combo Class for kids ages 8 to 12.

This program blends two of the most engaging dance styles—hip hop, with its grounded, rhythmic beats, and jazz, known for its expressive flair. It’s perfect for beginners or returning dancers who want to sharpen their skills while having a blast.

We’re offering two fall sessions:

• Session 1: August 21 to September 25
• Session 2: October 9 to November 13
  Each meets Wednesdays from 6:00 to 6:45 PM at Memorial Park Banquet Hall.

Taught by the amazing instructors from Dancing Around Dance Studio, this class is more than a workout—it’s an outlet for creativity and confidence. It’s been wonderful seeing kids light up as they learn choreography, express themselves through movement, and support each other as a team.

To maintain proper technique and focus, we do have a dress code: black leotard and black jazz shoes. These standards help set a tone of discipline and professionalism, while allowing kids to shine.

At $75 for residents and $80 for non-residents, it’s an excellent value and a great after-school activity for the season.
