Why Free Craft Days Are One of My Favorite Fall Traditions

There’s something magical about watching a room full of kids put their imagination to work—especially when they’re surrounded by their families, neighbors, and the energy of the season.

At the Blue Island Park District, our Free Craft Days have become one of my favorite ways to see that magic in action. Starting in September, we’re welcoming children ages 4 to 11 to the Memorial Park Banquet Hall for themed crafting nights celebrating Patriot Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Each evening runs from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m., and all for just $1.

We’ve designed these sessions to be fun, simple, and inclusive. Whether your child loves gluing, cutting, coloring, or just creating something they can proudly show off at home, we make sure every project reflects the season and gives families a reason to gather.

As a parent or grandparent, you’ll love the one-on-one bonding time. As a community member, you’ll appreciate how this kind of event keeps our parks alive with learning and laughter.

We’re proud to keep these events low-cost and accessible so that every family in Blue Island can enjoy them. No registration is required—just show up with your child, your creativity, and your community spirit.
