Figure, amateur, or pro – no matter your level or style, Blue Island Park District invites you to hit the ice for a while at the all-new Memorial Park Ice Rink, opening Winter of 2018-19

Dig out your skates! it’s almost time to hit the ice at Blue Island Park District’s brand new ice rink, opening this winter at Memorial Park! Our new ice rink at Memorial Park will feature a proven system that will make the most out of perfect ice skating weather and conditions and will be adorned with ambient lighting and seating designed to provide the perfect winter evening in Blue Island.

Skate free of charge at Memorial Park Ice Rink. Access is open to the public during regular hours of operation.

Skate Rental

Skate Rentals will be available to the public during Hours of Operation. A Driver’s license, State I.D. or other government I.D. to rent skates.  Grade school students may use School I.D. or library card. 

Rental fee: $3

No cell phones, shoe’s or any other items will be accepted in lieu of I.D.

Hours of Operation

Memorial Park Ice Rink is open during regular park hours. Skate rentals may be rented while an attendant is on duty. An attendant will be available during the following hours.

Monday:           No Attendant on Duty

Tuesday:           3:30pm –  8:00pm

Wednesday:     3:30pm –  8:00pm

Thursday:         3:30pm –  8:00pm

Friday:              3:30pm  –  8:00pm

Saturday:         12:00am – 8:00pm

Sunday:            12:00pm – 8:00pm

Weather to Skate or Not?

The Memorial Park Ice Rink is weather dependent and will be closed during conditions that not suitable or unsafe for skating.

 

A flagging system will be in place to notify guests as to the rink’s conditions.

 

GREEN FLAG: Signifies safe to skate areas during hours or operation.

RED FLAG: Signifies no skating due to unsafe ice conditions.

Warm Up

The nearest warming area and restrooms are located at the Memorial Park Field House during open hours. Ice skates may not be worn inside the warming house.

General Safety & Skating Guidelines

  • Skates must be worn on the ice at all times
  • The rink will not be staffed/supervised at all times. Skating is at your own risk.
  • Skaters must always comply when instructed by a staff member, when present. Staff member warnings or decisions are final.
  • Children ages 12 and under must be actively supervised by a responsible person 16 years of age or older.
  • Parents/guardians are responsible for the supervision and care of their own children.
  • Respect the rink skating schedule as posted.
  • Stay off the rink during inclement weather or when staff is clearing snow or resurfacing the ice.
  • No pucks or sticks are allowed on free skating areas.
  • Food and drinks are not allowed on the ice. 
  • Use only designated or assigned areas for changing skates
  • Skates are to be worn only on the ice or in areas covered with protective rubber flooring.
    • Exits are to remain clear at all times.
  • No pets are allowed on the ice
  • The Blue Island Park District is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • Skaters must keep moving on the ice.
  • Figure skaters: no jumps, spins, or backward skating.
  • No wheelchairs on the ice.
  • Tag, racing, keep away, sticks or pucks (or other shooting devices), or snowball fights, etc. are prohibited
  • All skaters must respect other people’s property and personal belonging.

Code of Conduct

To ensure the safety of all guests and the best possible experience for all, please follow the rules listed below.
Patrons using the rinks do so at their own risk.  The Blue Island Park District does not accept responsibility for related risks or injuries. Users are personally responsible for ensuring they are fit to participate in physical activities. Anyone with a condition affecting his/her ability to participate must take appropriate safety precautions to ensure his/her own safety and is encouraged to be accompanied by an adult knowledgeable about their condition.
The Blue Island Park District is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged to property.
There is zero tolerance of all forms of abuse and/or harassment on Blue Island Park District property, this includes the Memorial Park Ice Rink. Blue Island Park District reserves the right to dismiss any patron whose behavior endangers his/her own safety or the safety of others.
Visitors should keep in mind this arena is a public resource and a place for recreation and personal development for people of all ages and abilities; please help preserve a positive environment by honoring this Code of Conduct and reporting any violations to rink management. Your cooperation ensures all can enjoy this facility.
